Decorative Glazing Techniques Workshop with Ayla Mullen (November 10th, 11am-1pm)

Join Bellingham artist Ayla Mullen to expand your glazing skills and learn advanced glaze decoration techniques.

This one day workshop is designed for makers who have taken a Beginning Ceramics class or have a comparable basic knowledge of the ceramic process, who want to build their knowledge of glazing techniques and discover new ways to create interesting surfaces and beautifully decorated pots using glaze. We will learn techniques including glaze trailing, glaze inlay on texture, using resist materials like tape and wax to create pattern and build glaze layers, and brushwork on glazed surfaces. 

This will be a fun, informative workshop, fully demonstration based. Students should bring 2 to 3 bisque fired pieces to glaze after the demonstrations!

November 10th, from 11am-1pm

• Clay slabs for creating stamps and testing your stamps

• A variety of carving and texturing tools for creating designs in stamps

• Assorted cookie cutters for creating stamp shapes

• Sponges, pencils, and paper

Optional tools/materials for students to bring:

• Additional bisque-fired pots to experiment with glazing techniques on

• Sketchbook and pencil for design work and/or note taking

• your favorite paint brushes and/or sponges
