Jewelry Making Workshop with Ayla Mullen (December 11th, 5:30-8:30pm)
Join Bellingham artist Ayla Mullen to learn the art of making and decorating porcelain jewelry! In this one evening workshop (no experience required!) you will learn how to make unique, lightweight earrings and necklace pendants out of thin porcelain slabs and high temperature wire, as well as how to decorate your pieces using brushwork, carving, and inlay.
We will cover topics including pendant design and construction, combining multiple porcelain components to create unique earring shapes, and how to work with high temperature kanthal wires in combination with clay in the morning demonstration. After some time to work on creating, the second demonstration will cover a selection of techniques to decorate our earrings and necklace pendants, as well as techniques for successful glazing and firing, common mistakes and how to avoid them, and how to assemble finished porcelain earring components onto earwires. Students will leave with at least three fully decorated pairs of earrings and three necklace pendants, ready to fire at home, or left to be fired at Clayhouse and picked up at a later date, as well as all the knowledge needed to continue making ceramic jewelry on their own, from start to finish.
December 11th, from 5:30-8:30pm
$110 per person, limited to 15 spots!
