Can You Handle This? A Deep Dive Handle-making Workshop with Ayla Mullen (October 20th, 10am-1pm)

$85.00

Join Bellingham artist Ayla Mullen for a deep dive into the art of making a great handle! This is an ideal course for students that have already completed a Beginning Wheel Throwing class or have other similar basic making experience. If you are struggling to make handles that you love, or want to get away from that same old default handle shape that you have always made,  this is the workshop for you. We will focus on exploring and practicing a variety of handle-making techniques for every form.We will pull handles, coil handles, press handles, pull handles directly from the pot,  and develop the skills and knowledge to make strong, crack-free handle attachments.

The first two thirds of this workshop will consist of demonstration, and the last hour will be for students to practice the techniques demonstrated. Each student will receive a wheel thrown, leather hard mug to practice attaching multiple handles to, and is welcome to take the piece home after the workshop for reference/inspiration. Students can also opt to bring their own leather hard pieces in to attach handles to. However, this workshop has more of a skill-building focus and will not result in any finished pieces.
